How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Pet from the USA to Indonesia?
Indonesia asks one question no other destination on this calculator asks: where has your animal lived for the last six months? The answer has to be the United States, and it has to be an area where rabies has not been reported in that period. A dog that moved to the US four months ago does not qualify yet, however complete the rest of its file.
The second distinctive rule is at the other end of the timeline, and it is the tightest examination window on this calculator: five days.
Airline freight, and why the crate decides it
Airlines price live animals on chargeable weight: whichever is greater, the actual weight of animal and crate, or a volumetric figure worked out from the crate’s outside dimensions. On a lane this long the volumetric figure almost always wins, so the box sets the price rather than the dog.
No carrier publishes a live animal tariff for the Indonesia lane, so freight is quoted per booking against the crate, the routing and the season. A firm freight figure given without a crate measurement is a guess.
Our cost estimator shows how the other lines add up while freight is quoted. Jakarta and Denpasar take most live animal traffic from the United States, and routings usually connect through a Northeast Asian or Gulf hub, which adds a transit point to the temperature and timing calculation.
Whichever carrier takes the booking sets its own hold conditions, crate rules and pet charges, and those vary more between airlines than the fares do. Our list of the airlines that carry pets internationally covers which carriers accept live animals out of the US, and our comparison of US airline pet policies puts the big carriers side by side.
The rest of the bill
| Cost | Amount | Who charges it |
|---|---|---|
| Airline freight | Quoted per booking on this lane | Airline |
| USDA export endorsement | $160 first animal, $10 each additional | USDA APHIS |
| Rabies antibody titer test | Lab fee, set by the laboratory | Approved laboratory |
| IATA crate | $65 to $378 depending on size | Retailer |
| Microchip and rabies vaccination | Set by your clinic | Your vet |
| Veterinary examination, within 5 days of departure | Set by your clinic | Your vet |
| Airline live animal processing | $150 per air waybill | Airline |
Note the endorsement line, because it is not the $101 that most destinations cost. Indonesia requires a rabies antibody titer result on the certificate, and a certificate carrying a test result is endorsed on the higher band: $160 for the first animal and $10 for each additional one.
There is no Indonesian government fee in this table. That is not because none exists, it is because Indonesia does not publish one in the document the United States export process runs on. See the section below on what is and is not published.
Six months in the United States, and a rabies-free record for the area
The certificate requires that the animals “have resided in the United States for a period of not less than 6 (six) months”, and that “rabies has not been reported within the area where the animals have lived for the last 6 (six) months”.
Both halves matter. The first rules out an animal recently imported into the United States, which rules out a second move inside a year. The second is a statement about a place rather than about your dog, and it is the veterinarian who has to be willing to certify it.
Alongside the residency rule the certificate requires a microchip, a rabies vaccination given with a killed vaccine, and a neutralizing antibody titration result of 0.5 IU/ml or greater. The animal must be at least three months of age, and found healthy and free from clinical signs of rabies and other infectious or contagious disease.
The five day examination window, which is the tightest on this calculator
Most destinations give a veterinarian ten days between examining the animal and its departure. Indonesia gives five. The certificate is explicit that the inspection date “must be within 5 days of departure”.
That single number reshapes the last fortnight of the move. The examination, the certificate, the USDA endorsement through VEHCS and the flight all have to land inside a five day corridor, and any one of them slipping pushes the whole set. A delayed flight can expire the examination rather than merely inconvenience it.
The practical consequence: book the veterinary appointment against a confirmed flight, not against a planned one, and leave the endorsement submitted early in the window rather than late.
What is not included here
Your vet sets their own fees. The examination, the microchip, the vaccination and the blood draw are priced by the clinic, and the titer test adds a laboratory fee on top. Ground transport at either end, boarding either side of the flight, and any customs agent you appoint in Indonesia are separate.
Indonesia’s own import controls sit outside the United States export process, and the health certificate the process runs on does not state them. Import permit requirements, any quarantine period, which airports accept live animals, breed restrictions and any limit on the number of animals per shipment are set by the Indonesian authorities and have to be confirmed with them for your specific arrival airport before you book. We do not publish figures for them here, because we have not been able to verify them from an Indonesian source, and a guess on a page like this is worse than a gap.
What moves the price
Crate size is the single biggest lever, because it drives chargeable weight, and on a quoted lane it is the number the airline prices against. A crate one size larger than the animal needs can add a meaningful amount to a booking this long.
Routing is the second. Almost every itinerary from the United States connects at least once, and each transit point adds its own temperature check, its own handling and its own opportunity for a schedule change to break the five day examination window.
Season is the third. Summer heat embargoes at the US departure airport and at the transit hub both narrow the dates that work, and the tropics do not offer a cool season to aim at on the Indonesian end.
Our Indonesia destination guide sets out the full document sequence behind these figures.
Figures and sources
Indonesian requirements from the veterinary health certificate that USDA APHIS publishes for dogs and cats traveling from the United States to Indonesia, which is the document a USDA accredited veterinarian completes and APHIS endorses. Endorsement fees from the APHIS user fee schedule. Figures verified September 2026.
Where this page says a requirement is not published, that means it is not stated in the APHIS certificate and we have not verified it from an Indonesian authority. It does not mean the requirement does not exist. Confirm the Indonesian side directly before you commit to a date.

Send us the route, the breed and roughly when you want to travel, and tell us where in the United States you are flying from. We will size the crate, work the five day window backwards from a real flight, and come back with a figure rather than a range.
